Zombie Girl: The Movie

Today is the day that AFI gets going in earnest, with 18 features and a shorts package on tap. You’ll definitely want to make room for Tattooed Under Fire (4 p.m., Magnolia), which Jerome Weeks profiled in a radio feature this morning. And I think you might also like St. Nick (4:15 p.m., Magnolia), which I posted about on Thursday. Might I also recommend:

  • Haze – After Dallas resident and University of Colorado student Gordie Bailey died in a college hazing incident, his parents sought to get the word out about the dangers of college binge drinking. To that end, they formed Dallas-based Gordie Foundation, which is driving force behind this educational film. 4:30 p.m., Magnolia
  • Chinatown – Robert Towne won an original-screenplay Oscar for writing this tale of corruption in Los Angeles. He’ll attend the screening to pick up his AFI Star Award. 7 p.m., NorthPark
  • Zombie Girl: The Movie – This doc follows a 12-year-old Austin girl as she writes and directs a feature-length zombie movie. Part of the Texas Competition. 10:15 p.m., Magnolia
