Colson Whitehead is riding a pretty sizable wave of buzz for his newest novel, Sag Harbor, which was released this week. In his fourth book, Whitehead takes an autobiographical trip back to 1985 to the place where he spent the summers of his youth. But this isn’t the next Stand By Me – the book’s protagonist doesn’t necessarily Figure It All Out. In a New York Times book review, Janet Maslin writes, “Sag Harbor isn’t about much more than the hilariously trifling intricacies of this self-discovery process. Credit Mr. Whitehead with this: He captures the fireflies of teenage summertime in a jar without pretending to have some larger purpose.”

Whitehead will be in town on Friday to discuss Sag Harbor as part of Arts & Letters Live. And if you’d like to go, Art&Seek has got you covered. The first five people to shoot me an e-mail (sbecker@kera.org) will receive a pair of tickets to Friday’s event at the UTD Conference Center in Richardson.
