LIFE OF A CITY SLICKER: When programming was announced way back in the summer for the Winspear Opera House, one of the shows that perked up people’s ears was Billy Crystal’s 700 Sundays. The one-man show won a Tony in 2005, and Crystal is taking it back out for a short tour. “For me, it’s the best acting I’ve ever done,” he tells Lawson Taitte in a story today on dallasnews.com. If you’re unfamiliar with Crystal’s formative years spent around jazz royalty, be sure and give it a read.

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR: If you’re one of those people who buys a new holiday album each November, then you’ll definitely want to check out Holidazzle. The album is the work of folks you’re used to seeing on North Texas stages: Liz Mikel, Cedric Neal, Denise Lee, Kimberly Whalen and many, many more. It’s a who’s who of local musical theater. Mark Lowry of theaterjones.com has given it a thorough listening and likes what he hears. If you want to buy a copy, you can pick one up at area theaters or by going to the album’s Web site.

LISTEN LOCAL: A cool nugget over at DC9 at Night from Friday. Apparently the Barley House now sports an all local music jukebox. The Home Grown Jukebox includes CDs from the usual local acts and and is still taking submissions. All those quarters pumped into it benefit the Carter Albrecht Music Foundation. Between that and this, I’d say it’s already been a pretty good week for local music.
