Afternoon Delight: DIY Stop-Motion Animated Rock Video

by Jerome Weeks 25 Jan 2012

Take the typical but bouncy rock-band performance shoot, cut it up, paint all over it, tape it back together. It’s Django Django’s “Default.”

CTA TBD

Afternoon Delight is a daily diversion for when you’re just back from lunch, but not quite ready to get back to work. Check back tomorrow at 1 p.m. for another one.

As befitting their art-school days in Edinburgh, the group Django Django has come out with this neo-primitive, painterly video collage for their single, “Default.” The performance shoot of their quirky and very hook-ish electro-stomp looks like it’s been cut-and-pasted with electrician’s tape, water colors and scissors. Video director Dan Brereton printed out each of the 4,000-plus frames, giving drummer-producer David Maclean the job of quickly painting on them as they were re-shot for the animation.
