JINGLE ALL THE WAY: If there’s one commercial jingle that has managed to lodge itself in our collective ear, it’s “The best part of waking up, is Folgers in your cup!” (You can blame me for having that stuck in your head the rest of the day.) The folks at Folgers know a catchy thing when they hear it, but they’ve decided to update the jingle for the 21st Century. Rahegene Cherryll of Dallas submitted his own jazzy version, which has been named one of 10 national semi-finals. You can hear it and vote for your favorite here. If he makes it to the final five, he gets a trip to New York to perform his version live in front of American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, who will help pick the winner. Good luck, Rahegene.
LISTEN UP!: There was kind of a lot going on last night with the opening of the Dallas International Film Festival (more on that a little later) and the first day of the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival (see next item). That may have led to fewer people taking in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s program of Arnold Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht and Brahms’ Second Symphony. And Scott Cantrell says that’s a cryin’ shame. He noticed a particularly high number of empty seats Thursday night and writes in his dallasnews.com review that, “performances as passionate and yet lovingly detailed as these are precious indeed.” Good news is: there’s still three more chances to go.
MAKIN’ A LIST: Speaking of the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival, dfw.com has put together this handy list of 25 things you must do while meandering through all those booths. I particularly agree with Nos. 7 and 18, and No. 10 drew me in like a tractor beam at last year’s event.
BONUS: This video is kind of fun for those of you raised on 80s video games.
