YOUR SHOT AT ‘GLEE’: If you’ve ever watched Glee and thought, “I can do that,” well, you’re probably delusional. But, hey – what’s an underdog fulfilling his dreams story without someone telling you you can’t do it? If you still think you’ve got what it takes, auditions will be held for a role on the show in Dallas on Jan. 8-9. Sort of. Actually, the auditions are for a reality show called The Glee Project, which will name a winner who will appear during Season 3. Over at theaterjones.com, they’ve got info on how to audition as well as a quick chat with TCU grad Curt Mega, who will appear on an upcoming episode. You may remember Curt from Theatre Three’s A Light in the Piazza from a few years back, in which he starred opposite his now wife, Kimberly Whalen.
ARTS & LETTERS LIVE LINEUP: The roster of authors who will participate in Art & Letters Live’s 2011 season was announced last night. Annie Proulx, Joyce Carol Oates and David Sedaris are among the bolder names on the list. Also appearing: Tony Dungy, on Feb. 5. Will he be the new coach of the Cowboys by then? Probably a waste of time to even cross your fingers (but mine are crossed as I type this).
ERYKAH ON EARLY ERYKAH: Erykah Badu calls herself a “Child of Funk” in an interview with New York magazine’s Vulture blog. And her childhood was made funky by a number of funk acts she says helped develop her sound. She breaks down specific songs that influenced her in this slide show on the site. Among the songs on the setlist: Prince’s “Private Joy,” Chaka Khan’s “Sweet Thing” and a pair of Isley Brothers tunes: “Groove with You” and “Summer Breeze.”
