Congratulations to Brian Hamm of Plano, the winner of the Flickr Photo of the Week contest! Brian previously won our little contest back in June for this photo of the Polyphonic Spree. He follows last week’s winner, Efren Lozano.
If you would like to participate in the Flickr Photo of the Week contest, all you need to do is upload your photo to our Flickr group page. It’s fine to submit a photo you took earlier than the current week, but we are hoping that the contest will inspire you to go out and shoot something fantastic this week to share with Art&Seek users. If the picture you take involves a facet of the arts, even better. The contest week will run from Monday to Sunday, and the Art&Seek staff will pick a winner on Monday afternoon. We’ll notify the winner through FlickrMail (so be sure to check those inboxes) and ask you to fill out a short survey to tell us a little more about yourself and the photo you took. We’ll post the winners’ photo on Wednesday.
Now, here’s more from Brian:
Title of photo: Overground
Equipment: Canon 50D, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 @ f/2.2
Tell us more about your photo: Every Saturday morning, when I was a teenager, I would take the bus to Bachman Lake in Dallas. There was a small skate park there with a 12-foot half pipe (Clown Ramp). I’d skate all day until my legs gave up. I used to see this younger, red-headed kid there all the time, pulling tricks many of us were struggling with. That was Mike Crum.
Fast forward 20 years and a few X-Games medals, and Mike has his own skate park, called Overground, with a huge half pipe, a mini half and an indoor street course. I’ve been out there a couple times now. I’m not a member (yet), but they regularly hold open-house events, so that’s when I took this photo. If you’ve ever had anything to do with skateboarding, you need to pay them a visit. Maybe I’ll see you at the next open-house.
