Well, Monday has rolled back around again, and I’m glad you dropped in to share some of it with me! There just might be something for everyone this week. Are you a film lover? There is something for you. Classical music fan? Got ya covered. Theater? Count yourself in!
There has been TONS of live music around North Texas lately, and this week is no exception. The Drive-By Truckers will be at the Granada with Centro-Matic, The O’s will take part in the TAP Uptown Concert Series and the KXT Concert on the Square continues this week with Joe Ely. Also, don’t forget Mr. Big at the House of Blues. The band still wants to be with you after all these years. (Now the song will be stuck in my head all day.)
The DSO has a very busy week, first performing with 11-year-old phenom Jackie Evancho (who rose to fame on the variety show America’s Got Talent) and then under the direction of Principal Pops Conductor Marvin Hamlisch for Hamlisch does Hamlisch. Fun fact: at last count, Hamlisch is the proud owner of four Emmys, four Grammys, three Golden Globes, three Oscars, a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award (although I’m sure being mentioned in this blog will top all that). He has also written a lot of the songs you know and love from movies and Broadway.
The Texas Theatre is never one to disappoint. This week, check out the premiere of Last Circus. The movie follows a clown who is recruited to fight in the Spanish Civil War while still in costume. If the idea of a killer clown is kind of exciting, then you’ll probably also want to catch A Clockwork Orange this weekend for the Midnight Series at the Inwood Theatre. Oooohhhh, creepy creepy Kubrick.
As far as theater goes, Ochre House Theater takes a look at a dysfunctional family and its secrets in Morphing, and history buffs can learn all about cowgirls in Farmer’s Branch. Also, remember that it’s First Friday in Denton this week and Bedford brings in Labor Day with a festival. The Bedford Labor Day Blues and BBQ Festival will have delicious food, but also performances from Johnny Lang and Buddy Guy.
