The production of Puccini’s Turandot attracted 14,000 people to see the show. In advance, 29,000 had signed up for the free tickets online. The evening featured soprano Lise Lindstrom making her Dallas debut, as well as the world’s largest screening of What’s Opera, Doc?, the beloved 1957 Bugs Bunny spoof of Wagnerian operas.
Attendance was down a little from last April, when the Dallas Opera’s first simulcast at Cowboys Stadium drew 15,000 people to see Mozart’s The Magic Flute. But the 50 percent drop between online interest and actual attendance was consistent.
